DroughtAssessing the threat of long-term monsoon failure on Arizona sustainabilityFri, 10/08/2010 - 08:55 — admin
The goal of this pilot project is to understand the decade-to-millennium-scale variability in the North American monsoon system, with an objective of constraining what might happen to the monsoon in the future. Efforts are focusing on using cave, lake, and mire records to reconstruct monsoon variability of the late Holocene, and to test hypotheses regarding climate forcing and response. Another objective is to use this work to start building a major monsoon initiative aimed at assessing how the monsoon will change in the future, and how this possible change may affect sustainability of the southwest.
